PRISTINA, 25 August 2000 - Last month, the Central Elections Commission (CEC) adopted the rules governing the conduct of the media during the run-up to the forthcoming municipal elections.

Campaign advertising in the media is allowed under the Electoral Rule, which is aimed at ensuring fair and equitable access to the media during the pre-election period. The CEC has now adopted the procedures for implementing this particular aspect of the rule.

At next week's regular election briefing, OSCE will be explaining the rules on campaign advertising in the media and how they affect both the political entities who will be contesting the forthcoming municipal elections and the media outlets both print and broadcast who will be the channels for their campaign advertisements.

The OSCE's Senior Media Advisor Michael McIvor will be joining us to explain the procedures and answer your questions.
