PRISTINA, 13 December 2000 - The Kosovo Law Centre (KLC), in co-operation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), will host a seminar on the issue: "Trafficking of Women". The topic was chosen to raise the awareness of this problem in and outside Kosovo.

The seminar is also part of the increasing efforts of the OSCE in the prevention of this crime. This policy has been recently expressed in a decision of the OSCE Ministerial Council dated 28 November on "Enhancing the OSCE's Efforts to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings".

Altogether, six experts - both national and international - will give presentations on the factual situation in the region, the current legal framework related to fighting trafficking of women, draft laws regarding this issue and possibilities for law enforcement. The seminar will be concluded with an open discussion amongst the participants about the challenges posed by trafficking to the legal community. The Kosovo Law Centre will publish the presentations and the discussion early next year.

The seminar will take place in Pristina on Thursday, 14 December, 9:00 - 17:00 hrs, at the Hotel Iliria. Media are welcome to observe the proceedings.

As part of its institution-building mandate, the OSCE Mission in Kosovo established the Kosovo Law Centre in conjunction with local and international partners. The Centre serves as a legal think-tank with no political affiliation, organizes law-related seminars, and provides technical and material assistance to the legal community.
