Kosovo Serbs take seat on Central Election Commission

PRISTINA, 18 November 2001 (OSCE) - Two new members joined Kosovo's Central Election Commission (CEC) at its post election meeting on Sunday.
For the first time in the 18 months the CEC has been meeting, a Kosovo Serb sat at the table, supported like all CEC members, by an alternate.
Miodrag Brkljac, originally from Kosovo, presently lives in central Serbia; he is a lawyer who is working largely in Mitrovica. His alternate, for those occasions he is not available to attend the meeting, is Miro Delevic; he is also a lawyer, from Zvecan.
Their nominations were accepted by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, Hans Haekkerup, on Saturday.
The CEC is the body which makes the rules which govern the running of Kosovo's elections. It is comprised of nine national members, who represent political entities, civil society and the NGO community, and three internationals. It is chaired by the the Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Daan Everts.
